Diversity and Inclusion Statement

Embracing an inclusive and diverse classroom allows for fresh ideas, unique thinking and new perspectives. This fosters open attitudes, freeing students to effect each other in a way that broadens their cultural views, sharpens perceptions of people, and engages their creativity.

I strive to promote an environment where students feel empowered and safe to speak up, creating a betterexperience for all. The foundation of an inclusive classroom begins with mutual respect. My goal is to remove barriers and liberate minds. This yields opportunities for discussion on a range of topics helping students self reflect on any blind spot(s) they may unknowingly carry. For example: How can I help empower women in a male dominated profession? What does diversity in others look like, and as human beings and artists how do we respect and celebrate those distinctives?

This type of environment promotes a healthy place for learning — respecting each student as equal, unique, and valued. Diversity and individuality enhance the texture of the classroom enriching the culture of creativity, art and design.
